Monte Real Rioja Gran Reserva 1998

Medium ruby in color with slight clearing at the rim but still fairly youthful looking. Nose is medium plus to high intensity with black cherry, red plum, dill pickle, dried orange peel, cocoa powder, mocha, coconut husk. Super complex and inviting. Palate is juicy, red cherry pie filling, ripe black cherry, candied orange peel, stewed prunes, espresso bean, vanillin, wheat toast, nutmeg, cinnamon, date syrup. Beautiful wine. 94+ to 95 points.
