F. Stephen Millier Black Label Old Vine Zinfandel 2021
Fairly translucent ruby in color with slight clearing at the rim. Nose is red plum, black cherry, herbal and medicinal, dried cranberry, pomegranate, raisins, cherry cordial, slight potpourri. Palate is medium body, medium acidity, minimal tannins, very dilute and lacks concentration - perhaps needs air. Overripe cherry, red plum, dried cranberry and pomegranate, raisin, stewed prunes, bit of baking spice. A bit hot and awkward. Not what I'm looking for in a California Zinfandel. Needs depth and concentration. Iām willing to give the benefit of the doubt that the wine might improve with a few hours in the decanter, but at time of tasting under pop and pour conditions: 80 points.
